WTF Tumblr - whose dash?
One second I’m looking at a familiar bunch of bloggers, then it’s like I’m looking at somebody else’s dash… not cool :/

Grandmaster Funk
So I’ve been having a little pity party lately. Gradually last week I started to feel overwhelmed and tired and low. Part job stress, part money worries, part health frustration, and part bad sleep habits, it started to add up. I took the long weekend off from any workout, had a terrible case of the sniffles - mostly allergy, but also just managed to keep a cold at bay, and forced myself to...

Muscle Beach and the Dawn of Huge →
If you were born anytime after the release of Conan the Barbarian in 1982, it may shock you to learn that as late as the 1970s, Americans were repelled by the sight of brawn. “I’d go to the beach, and they’d give me the wolf whistle, guys on a blanket wanting to fight,” says Eddie Giuliani, the 1974 Mr. America (short division) and one of the early legends at Gold’s. “Nobody liked guys with...

Last week a colleague who works in a satellite office came into town to spend the day with us. The guy must have dropped 30lbs since last summer … he’d been marathon training. He ran the Myrtle Beach Half this weekend in 1:47. Dang I’m so jealous of people who have speed.

motivationforfitness said: Woo!! :D Are you using a body fat scale for the 26% or going by measurements? I’m using a Tanita scale. It’s old, so it measures weight and body fat to the nearest 1/2 lb or .5% body fat. The reason I say I don’t trust it (much) is that the numbers can change a lot during the day depending on intake and hydration etc. But I do trust a trend over...

sayhellotocindy replied to your photo: I just bought myself this set of higher resistance… I’ve always been curious about these! Was it easy to learn the exercises to use with them? Actually learning to use resistance bands is really easy - it’s just like doing “normal” weight training. I think the big adjustment is getting used to the feel of the bands. I’m...

30 Day Challenge - Second Weekend Recap
Friday Feb 10th - Sunday Feb 12th (days 11, 12, and 13): If you thought - from lack of challenge posts - that I’d shrunk away from the challenge, you’d be wrong! It didn’t all go to plan, but it was a successful three days. Friday workout: Non-crunch core/hips and legs. A good workout, designed to leave me able to deal with Saturday morning bootcamp. Saturday workout: Bootcamp...

Sod my knees!* For the moment, running and I have broken up - we’ve decided to take a rest from each other.  After a few sessions of couples counseling - aka seeing the physio - we’ve promised eachother that we’ll start up again … cautiously, taking it mile by mile. Cardio for the moment is going to have to be non-impact. All the anti inflamatories are not doing their...

Hassiba Boulmerka - Olympic gold medalist and... →
A great running story, this is one gutsy lady. In Algeria, Boulmerka is hailed as the country’s greatest athlete. She took the gold medal for the 1500m at the World Championships in 1991 and Olympic gold the following year. But this was at a time when Islamist militancy was on the rise in Algeria, and some radicals thought the racetrack was not the right place for a woman. She received...

I need a little padding ....
I’m about to go home for the weekend, and I’m going to stop off and buy some knee supports/wraps/whatever so I can endure bootcamp tomorrow. Basically everything with my knees is in the right place, no alignment and no tendon issues, just need stabilization until I can strengthen them through physio. Anyone got any good suggestions?

30 Day Challenge - February 9th
Day 10 Challenge summary: Just exhausted yesterday - not getting enough sleep on Wednesday night came back to bite me. So Thursday became a rest day (2nd this week), and in fact I pretty much sacked out at 9PM last night. Sleep is SO important; I must focus on this. 7 hours sleep: Check! Got to bed much earlier last night. Workout, Abs, & Tracking: Miss. Say NO to sneaky snacks: Check! ...

30 Day Challenge - February 8th
Day 9 Challenge summary: The good news - nothing major wrong with my knees, but I will be going to the physio to strengthen them. Better news - I got to run a lovely four miles. Whoops - it was one of those nights were I followed old habits and went to bed way too late. This was the only area that I didn’t do so well. 7 hours sleep: Miss! I went to bed close to midnight, so got about...

Four glorious miles
I’m just so thankful I could run tonight. I got four careful and relaxed miles in 45:48. It’s a fabulously clear night - and actually a bit cold; I think it was 32F when I left at 9:30PM. Well it’s an hour past my goal bedtime, but I’ve been baking in the kitchen. Now everything is done I can get to bed. Goodnight Tumblrs, sleep well!

Doctor Doctor
The visit went very well. He checked my knees out. Prognosis is just some minor arthritis aggravated by a very active month or so. So he’s given me some anti-inflamatories and is sending me to the physio for an assessment and to be given some exercises to help stabilize my knees. Still allowed to strength train as before.  Still allowed to go to bootcamp (must warm up properly before) ...

30 Day Challenge - February 7th Wrap Up
Today was Day 8. The good news is that after an unscheduled day off, I had a really good workout tonight - nothing more motivating that working out in front of The Biggest Loser. Also, I weighed myself again today - down 1 lb from Monday’s weigh in puzzler, so I’ll put a lot of that Sunday night/Monday AM gain down to water retention and a relaxed weekend diet. Tomorrow I see...

Day Seven of the challenge, Monday February 6th Monday was a bit of a challenge. The fabulous Mrs. Runrunningrunner is sick and has a bad sinus infection, and our oldest is also under the weather - and seeing the doctor on Tuesday. So I dropped my Monday workout so that I could be more helpful around the house. Also I’m also making some modifications to my training schedule for this week...
